Purpose of the Proposition

The citizens of East St. Mary Own the Ochsner St. Mary facility and it is in need of major repairs. Grace Hebert Curtis Architects did a thorough assessment of the building and St. Mary HSD 2 is following their recommendations.

  •  Keep moisture out of the building by sealing the building envelope and replacing the windows with those that are energy efficient and hurricane resistant

  •  Replace the HVAC System which cannot maintain optimal temperatures

  •  Replace Roof Flashing which has aged out

  •  Upgrade other Equipment which has reached the end of life cycle

  •  Renovate patient areas as funds allow

In addition to major repairs, funds will be used for scholarships for local youths to attend medical or nursing school or other healthcare training programs. They can return home and help to staff our hospital

Benefits of Community Investment

  • Attract more doctors who want to practice in a modern facility

  • Expand services since funds not going to major repairs

  • Create a better patient and provider experience

  • Keep our hospital viable and healthcare local

Grace Curtis Hebert Architects said that the hospital building is solid and with the recommended repairs and upgrades it could last for generations. But these repairs are needed now.
